Gesture use is prevalent in speech communication. I will talk about the representation of semantic information of object referents and motion events across speech and gesture in Chinese conversational discourse, the cross-modal representation of temporal events in terms of space, the timing of speech and gesture production, and a neural substrate of co-speech gesture processing.
Kawai Chui is Distinguished Professor of Linguistics and a research fellow at the Research Center for Mind, Brain, and Learning, National Chengchi University, Taipei. Her research interests include the use of language and gesture in discourse, the neurocognitive processing of gesture in speech communication, and the gesture development in children with typical development and children with language delay.
